Lifesaver

Last night Bender saved a life.

He’s a universal canine blood donor; he donates blood at the Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley. Bender’s been donating for a year and a half and we’ll continue doing it until he’s too old (he can do it until he’s 9). He’s been called in there once before to do a blood transfusion, and has donated blood many times. So this isn’t the first life he’s saved. But it’s a little different considering this dog is our client.

Happy birthday

It’s Bender’s third birthday today! Happy birthday buddy!

He's always happy!

He's always happy!

Birthday presents included tasty turkey and rice bones for Bender and Maggie, and a new steak flavored rope toy.

My X of shame has been removed. That was fun…I guess if I can keep my posture correct and do my exercises I won’t have to wear it again. Most people at work thought it was bandaging covering a new tattoo, but sadly it was nothing that cool.

Passed!

I passed my class 6 knowledge test this afternoon! I can legally ride a motorcycle now!

Paul passed as well, so tomorrow he is signing us up for the beginner’s lessons at Pacific Riding School!

In other news, I had my evaluation by the physiotherapist today. She was impressed (in a bad way) at the level of pain I have and how messed up my neck, upper back, and shoulders are. My shoulders have been taped into place to force me to have correct posture. I have to wear the tape for at least two days.

The part where she tested how tense my muscles are was excruciating.

She gave me some good tips on trying to make my desk at work align with my height better. I also have special stretches and exercises that I have to do periodically throughout the day.

The tape on my back feels like an “x” of shame. I’m 30 years old and I can’t hold myself up properly.

…but I can ride a motorcycle!

Here’s a little gem from September, 2003. Can you spot the recurring themes in my life? More

One step forward

Tomorrow I have an appointment to take the class 6L knowledge test, and as soon as Paul and I know we’ve both passed (my test is at 1:20 and his is at 5:00) we’re going to sign up for evening lessons at Pacific Riding School. Although the way they seem to be booked up in the summer, it’s likely that it will be a month before we can go; which is good because you can’t take your road test until you’ve held your learner’s license for at least 30 days.

It’s happening: after all these years of wanting to get a motorcycle, the pieces are starting to come together.

I also have my first ever acupuncture appointment right after I take my knowledge test. I’ve had acupuncture once (and it was ninja-acupuncture at that) so I’m not too sure what to expect. The acupuncturist is also a physiotherapist, and she’s going to evaluate my neck for range of motion exercises as well.

Irked

It really irks me when people challenge what my doctor has told me. It also really irks me when the people doing the challenging dismiss my explanation as “your doctor is being a pompous ass”.
